In his essay The Neuroplastic Dilemma: Consciousness and Evolution, Franco Berardi Bifo discusses how precariousness and globalization have jeopardized social solidarity using “the replacement of cognition with a chain of automated connections, aiming at the systematic fabrication of automated subjectivity.” As a project concerned with deactivating compassion, says Bifo, “The abstract totalitarianism of finance and the aggressive identitarianism of disempowered populations are now the masters of the future.”
