Activism as Entertainment
The local hosts of the national human rights conference at which I recently presented, just today posted their post-conference report, including a notice of a follow-up meeting scheduled for January 10, one month to the day after the conference. I'd been watching their website since then to see if they had put up links to the websites of the presenters, researchers, and other national experts they invited to inform them, but that never happened. It still hasn't.
Nor did the hosts respond or link to the researchers' report I prepared and sent them for dissemination to their conference sponsors, so they could begin organizing on an informed basis. I mean, after being told on December 10 that the vigilante organizations were already mobilizing (with GOP support)--that very week--to make the anti-immigrant campaign the number one issue across the country in 2006, the progressive coalition decided to take a month off.
And people wonder how liberals lost our government to fascists.
