Refuge in Crime
For those in need of a respite from the inanity of commercialized holidays, Dashiell Hammett's Crime Stories and Other Writings--published in 2001 by Literary Classics of the United States--is a very satisfying escape to the back alleys of Fog City before the age of air travel and TV.
