Where Chaos and Bloodshed Rule

As Murray Dobbin reports at The Tyee, Libya -- which prior to the NATO invasion boasted the highest standard of living in Africa -- is now well on its way to becoming a completely failed state, where chaos and bloodshed rule. Before NATO toppled Gadhafi, Libya had the lowest infant mortality and highest life expectancy on the continent; now -- thanks to NATO -- it is the biggest open arms bazaar in the world.

So what was the real reason NATO destroyed a country that provided free medicare and education to its citizenry? Gadhafi was the #1 African head of state leading in the creation of African financial and communication institutions--independent of US and EU control.

For that crime, Libya (and Africa) were sacrificed to reckless "humanitarian imperialism."

Fossil Fuel Theft

Expedited fossil fuel export from Canada and the US to Asia means Canadians and Americans will soon be deprived of energy independence and left with massive toxic waste sites. In addition to the folly of exporting federally-subsidized fossil fuel reserves in terms of energy security for North America, the actual processing and shipping of these public energy assets wastes enormous amounts of energy itself. All told, energy export in Canada and the US is about theft of public assets and tribal properties by corporations in collusion with government leaders--nothing more.

Hillary Thatcher

Having begun her campaign for US president in 2016, Hillary Clinton's career is fair game. As Ralph Nader reports, it's not a pretty picture. Reading Hillary's conduct in the U.S. Senate and as U.S. Secretary of State, it is clear she stands up for US military aggression, and stands down when it comes to protecting working-class families from the predations of Wall Street.

Reminds me of another belligerent woman named Margaret Thatcher.

Geographies of Desperation

As Katie Mazer reports at Briarpatch Magazine, Canada's brutal mistreatment of rural working-class people has turned Orwellian, with zealous, quota-meeting bureaucrats developing cruel means of removing what meager benefits are available to the seasonally employed--in some cases targeting whole communities for punishment. As government labour market planners conspire to herd families away from their roots, free market fanaticism is clearly driving this modern human outrage. As Mazer observes, labor security -- rooted in place and community -- is deemed a threat to the market, and thus an evil to be rooted out by government.
