God's Green Earth
As Forrest Palmer of the Wrong Kind of Green Collective remarks, personal responsibility is the missing element emanating from climate change pooh-bahs like 350.org's Bill Mckibben. While it's well and good to challenge the ethics of the fossil fuel industry, says Palmer, examining the fossil-fueled lifestyle that demands the undiminished supply of energy -- and the attendant dehumanization of populations that get in the way -- is off the table for big green, neoliberal NGOs. As dependents of the capitalist institutions they ostensibly challenge, they offer up no real solutions, but rather, as Palmer notes, manipulate religious icons, while achieving nothing in the way of saving God's green Earth.
